Qena

The Qena temples are a complex of ancient Egyptian temples located in the city of Qena, which is located on the east bank of the Nile River, about 60 miles north of Luxor. The complex includes the temples of Dendera, Abydos, and the Ramesseum.

The Temple of Dendera, dedicated to the goddess Hathor, is one of the best-preserved temples in Egypt. It was built during the Ptolemaic dynasty and features a massive hypostyle hall with 24 columns, as well as a sanctuary and several chapels. The temple is famous for its astronomical ceiling, which depicts the constellations of the zodiac.

The Temple of Abydos is one of the oldest temples in Egypt, dating back to the reign of King Narmer in the Early Dynastic period. The temple is dedicated to the god Osiris and features a large courtyard, a hypostyle hall, and a sanctuary. It is also famous for its intricate carvings and hieroglyphics, which include the famous "King List" that chronicles the names of the pharaohs.

The Ramesseum is a mortuary temple built by Pharaoh Ramesses II in the 13th century BC. It is dedicated to the god Amun and features a large hypostyle hall, a sanctuary, and several chapels. The temple is famous for its colossal statue of Ramesses II, which is over 60 feet tall.

The Qena temples are a testament to the skill and artistry of the ancient Egyptians, and they offer a fascinating glimpse into the religious beliefs and practices of this ancient civilization. Today, they are popular tourist attractions and are recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
