About this tour

Ramses II carved the Great Temple of Abu Simbel into the Nubian hillside around 1264 BC, near Egypt’s southern border. Four colossal statues of the king guard the entrance; one was broken by an ancient earthquake, and its pieces still lie where they fell.

This is a private trip in one long day from Luxor, so you don’t need a hotel night in Aswan. A licensed driver takes you there and back in a modern air-conditioned vehicle, your Egyptologist guide spends about 3 hours with you at the temples, and lunch is included.

All fees, taxes and entrance tickets are paid in advance.

Planning your Abu Simbel day trip from Luxor

This private trip is for travelers based in Luxor who want to see Abu Simbel without spending a night in Aswan. It is a long day on the road, but you travel in a modern air-conditioned vehicle with a licensed driver, and you have about 3 hours at the temples with your Egyptologist.

The Great Temple, carved by Ramses II around 1264 BC, is guarded by four colossal statues of the king, and one still lies broken where an ancient earthquake left it. The rescue of the temples is part of UNESCO’s Nubian Monuments listing.

Bring a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen, since the forecourt is open to the sun. A light layer helps in the air-conditioned car, and a book, music or a neck pillow make the drive easier. Lunch on the way back is included.
